Shine Rosman tells us why marriage isn’t for everyone (and that’s okay!)

Shine Rosman

The Nollywood industry is one filled with glamour and noise and Shine Rosman has steadily built a name that stands out for its grace and groundedness. The Nigerian actress and media personality first caught the audience’s attention through her striking performances in films such as To Kill a Monkey and The Waiter.

Born to a Nigerian mother and a Canadian father, Shine grew up in a home that celebrated discipline, warmth, and art. Her childhood, she often says, shaped her sense of purpose and her belief in family. The names of Sunshine Rosman sisters are, Nwadiuto Rosman aka Uto Rosman and Michella Rosman aka Honey Rosman. They are models and actresses.

But beyond the lights and scripts, Shine is a thinker who does not shy away from sensitive conversations about life, love, and the meaning of partnership.

Shine Rosman

In a recent episode of The Open Up Podcast with Amanda Dara, Shine Rosman shared her unfiltered thoughts on love and marriage, stirring widespread reactions online. She spoke with the calm assurance of someone who has watched people rush into relationships without reflection.

“Not everybody is meant to be married,” she said. “Some people are not willing to put in the work, and some just don’t want it. It’s not by force.”

Shine explained that relationships require daily effort, emotional maturity, and self-awareness from both partners. She urged young people to stop seeing marriage as an achievement or an escape from loneliness. She continued:

“Do not enter relationships mindlessly. If you want to have a fling, have a fling, but do not step into a relationship without clarity. Being in a relationship requires a lot of work, sacrifice and daily effort.”

For Shine, commitment is sacred, not compulsory.

A love philosophy shaped by family

Her perspective on love did not come from heartbreak or cynicism. Instead, it was born out of admiration for what she saw growing up. Shine described her parents’ marriage as a beautiful example that continues to inspire her. She said:

“For me, I want to get married because I had a beautiful example growing up. My parents were not perfect, but every day I looked at them and thought, whatever you two have, I want it. My dad was so in love with my mum. No matter how much she frustrated him, he always loved her.”

To her, marriage should reflect mutual respect and genuine friendship, not performance or societal pressure. She acknowledged that not everyone grew up witnessing such love, but insists it still exists. Shine added:

“For those who did not grow up seeing that kind of love, I want you to know that it is real. It exists. Do not let your pain make you believe otherwise.”

Finding strength through loss

Behind Shine’s calm and self-assured presence is a story of resilience. On the same podcast, she revealed how the loss of her father deeply affected her. Instead of retreating, she channelled her emotions into her work. She revealed:

“I was able to work away a lot of emotions. People say time heals; I don’t think it does.”

Acting became her form of therapy, and a way to transform pain into purpose. That experience, she added, taught her empathy and strengthened her faith in human connection.

Describing her parents as her greatest teachers, she said:

“The more I’ve advanced in life, the more I’ve realised that my parents have always been my true role models. Maybe I just want to be a better version of them, a healthier version, because many of our parents had to deal with a lot of toxicity from their own upbringing which they unknowingly passed down. One has to give them grace for that.”

She credits her family’s unity and support for helping her stay true to herself amid public pressure. Her closest friends remain her sisters, and she says that small, trusted circle keeps her grounded. “By being myself,” she explained. “The expectations people have of you can easily creep into your life and start to affect how you think. But surrounding yourself with the right people makes a big difference.”

Never one to shy away from calling things as she sees them, Shine also used her platform to speak against older men who pursue much younger women. She described it as a sign of moral decay and a lack of self-respect.

“I see older men in clubs dancing with girls the same age as their daughters, and I am like, Daddy, have some shame,” she said. “Your children are the same age as this girl you are dancing with.”

The Bucci Franklin connection

Shine Rosman’s name has also appeared in recent headlines for a different reason. Fans have speculated about her relationship with actor Bucci Franklin after the two starred together in To Kill a Monkey and appeared at events side by side. Neither has confirmed the rumour, and Shine has continued to keep her private life out of public discussion.

While her chemistry with Bucci onscreen is undeniable, Shine remains tight-lipped about anything beyond the set.

Conclusion

For all her realism, Shine is not anti-marriage. She still dreams of companionship, but one that is rooted in sincerity. She recalled:

“I once went to a concert and saw a beautiful couple in their fifties and sixties dancing together. They were laughing, having fun and you could tell they genuinely loved each other. That is the kind of love I want to grow into.”

Shine Rosman stands out for her emotional intelligence and self-awareness. Her words on love and marriage reflect a woman learning, growing, and giving herself grace through every chapter of life.

As she continues to rise in Nollywood, Shine’s story reminds fans that not everyone has to fit into society’s timelines and that’s perfectly okay.
