Nigerian music doesn’t have structure – Fireboy
  • Despite hyping Nigerian music, Fireboy stated that Nigerian music has no structure, making it difficult for other foreign fans to come to the country for Arena shows
  • He stated that for Nigerian fans to be able to pay for Arena shows in the country, there should be structure and incentives that would necessitate such movement

Nigerian singer Adedamola Adefolahan, popularly known as Fireboy, has recently expressed his thoughts on the current state of the music industry.

The talented artist shared his belief that Nigerian music lacks structure, making it challenging for artists to create meaningful and cohesive bodies of work and for foreign fans to visit the country for Arena shows.

Fireboy claimed that although Nigerian music is “perfect,” touring the country is challenging due to the lack of structure.

The singer made this statement in a recent interview with cool FM, Lagos,  hosted by Kayode Oladotun.

He said:

“Everyone is saying ‘Afrobeats to the world.’ The music is perfect. But there is no structure.

The [foreign] fans are listening [to our music] but when are they going to come to Lagos and watch us perform? When are we going to have arenas in Lagos where we can bring people from all around the world? You know, it [structure] will make everything just easier.”

When asked whether he believed Nigerian fans will be able to afford arena performances, he said:

“Yeah, they will. We already are.

We just need to give people the incentive to pay. If you build a proper arena in Lagos, people would want to pay [gatefees] because they know that they are safe.”

Fireboy’s strides at his releases continue to place him as a significant impact on the Afrobeats scene. The video for ‘All Of Us,’ also known as ‘Ashawo,’ from the ‘Playboy’ album, blamed his inability to be a true partner on drink, oblivious to the consequences of his actions.

As a ‘Playboy’ who wasn’t devoted to a lady, he didn’t mind if his partner cheated on him because he would undoubtedly cheat as well. Embracing his stardom, Fireboy admitted that fame comes with many temptations, including cheating on his partner. But he continued to apologise for doing so.

The attractive musician transports viewers back in time with the retro-themed visual, which is armed with vintage clothing and the style in which they set the live band stage in the clip.
