Music mogul Don Jazzy shared a fascinating story about his journey in the music industry.

In an interview with Bounce Radio, Don Jazzy recounted a challenging period when he tried to sell Mo’hit Records, the label he co-founded with Afrobeats legend D’banj, for a mere 1 million naira.

When asked about his attempt to sell the label to Nigerian music executive Obi Asika, Don Jazzy confirmed the endeavor, which ultimately ended in failure.

Don Jazzy stated that the attempts came on the heels of D’banj’s single “Tongolo,” which gained significant attention but didn’t yield the financial success they had hoped for.

In 2024, Don Jazzy successfully sold a majority stake in his second label, Mavin Records, to global music giant Universal Music for $150 million..

He made the announcement on his Instagram page, sharing the exciting news with his fans and followers.

The music executive expressed his thrill in revealing the collaboration with UMG, describing it as a new chapter in Mavin Records’ journey.

Don Jazzy emphasized that the partnership is not only a recognition of their collective talent and hard work but also an ambitious endeavor to elevate African music on the global stage.

According to Don Jazzy, the partnership with UMG is expected to open new doors for Mavin Records, allowing them to reach a wider audience and contribute to the global influence of African music.

Don Jazzy expressed his excitement about the prospects of the collaboration, assuring fans that while embarking on this new path, Mavin Records’ core mission and values will remain intact.
