“I’m yet to get any royalties since leaving Kennis Music” – Paul Play Dairo reveals
  • In a recent discussion on the afrobeats podcast, Paul Play Dairo shared that since leaving Kennis Music, he hasn’t received any royalties
  • Speaking on why some of his music is not available on streaming platforms, Paul Play said the nature of the agreement he had with the label has made it impossible for him to put the songs up.

Nigerian music artist Paul Play Dairo has opened up about the absence of royalties since his departure from Kennis Music.

In a recent discussion featured on the Afrobeats Podcast, he addressed the challenges he has faced, particularly highlighting the gaps in Nigeria’s intellectual property laws.

Regarding the unavailability of some of his music on streaming platforms, Paul Play explained that the terms of his previous agreement hinder his ability to upload these tracks.

He also revealed that, since leaving Kennis Music, he has yet to receive any royalties.

He noted that some parties have been hesitant to engage in discussions aimed at resolving these matters.

During the interview, the RnB singer and producer elaborated on the recurring issue of artists sampling his work without obtaining the necessary permissions.

He recalled a notable incident in which he took legal action against MTN for using his song in an advertisement without his consent.

“I received a lot of insults when I sued MTN. I was accused of being broke and not wanting the younger generation to grow,” he said on the attacks he suffered over the lawsuit.

Paul pointed out that his tracks “Forever,” “Angel of My Life,” and “Mosorire” have been sampled multiple times, often without his authorization.

While he opted not to disclose specific names, he noted that Blaqbonez had sampled his work on the song “Loyalty” from the album “Young Preacher,” which was later removed from streaming platforms due to copyright issues.
