L-R: Atiku Abubakar, Bola Ahmed Tinubu

  • Atiku likened Raye to historic female activists like Gambo Sawaba, Funmilayo Ransom-Kuti, and Margaret Ekpo for their political contributions.
  • He urged Nigerians to support Raye instead of responding with hostility over her critical remarks about government policies.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has voiced his support for a National Youth Service Corps member in Lagos, Ushie Uguamaye, also called Raye, following alleged threats.

In a statement posted on X on Sunday, Atiku commended Raye’s bravery, portraying her as a representation of young women actively involved in advocacy and democracy.

“Raye embodies the spirit of a new generation of women who champion the ideals of popular participation and unwavering advocacy in the political sphere.”

“I deeply admire her boldness and wisdom—her fearless resolve to speak truth to power, undeterred by the weight of opposition,” Atiku wrote.

The ex-presidential aspirant compared Raye to renowned female activists like Gambo Sawaba, Funmilayo Ransom-Kuti, and Margaret Ekpo, who significantly influenced Nigeria’s political history.

Atiku urged people to support Raye instead of responding with hostility towards her actions and statements.

“Rather than being met with hostility, Raye deserves encouragement and support. She is a shining emblem of the Nigerian youth—a testament to the long-held promise that the leaders of tomorrow are already among us, ready to shape a better future,” Atiku said.

Raye, serving in Lagos as a corps member, gained attention after a video she made criticising government policies spread widely online.

She later alleged that she had received threats, supposedly from NYSC officials, pressuring her to remove the controversial video.

In the clip shared on her TikTok account #talktoraye on Saturday, Raye expressed concerns about Nigeria’s worsening economic conditions and the diminishing value of hard work.

She criticised President Tinubu’s administration, referring to him as a “terrible leader,” and doubted the government’s dedication to reducing citizens’ struggles.

Officials have not yet issued any official statements in response to her claims.
