Wizkid didn’t hesitate to work with me when I was nobody – Tyla on collab with singer

Grammy-winning South African pop princess, Tyla, is finally speaking on her dreamy collaboration with Nigerian Afrobeats star Wizkid.

In a recent interview with Capital Xtra in London, Tyla revealed that their joint track Dynamite was actually recorded three years ago, way before she became a global name. She revealed:

“I was new when I linked up with Wizkid. A lot of people didn’t know me. I didn’t expect him to be down for a session, but he was.”

“He liked some of the stuff I played him, and we made Dynamite. I’ve been sitting on the demo for three years, dancing to it every day in my room and hoping one day I would get to drop it.”

Tyla, who shot to fame in 2023 with her viral hit Water, couldn’t stop praising Wizkid for the role he’s played in pushing African music globally. She added:

“Wizkid has done so much for the culture, pushing our music and bringing eyes towards our creatives back home. He is just the best. I don’t think he has one bad song.”

She also gushed over his consistency and talent over the years, calling him one of the most influential artists out of Africa.

Tyla made history in 2024 when she won the first-ever Best African Music Performance Grammy for Water. With Dynamite finally out, fans are already calling it another international banger in the making.

In other news, Nigerian street-hop rapper CDQ has opened up on quitting his 9-5 for music.

In a candid chat with The Echo Room, CDQ opened up about his life before music, revealing he once worked a bank job. His banker profession was not out of passion, but out of respect for his late father’s wishes.

Driven by a growing void inside, he found himself drifting away from suits and spreadsheets into the arms of his true calling, music. CDQ shared how his longtime friend and music producer Masterkraft, helped pave the way.
