South Africa’s Black Coffee Emerges First African DJ To Win Grammy Award

46-year-old Black Coffee has become the first Disc Jockey (DJ) on the continent of Africa to win a Grammy Award plaque.

The revered DJ knocked off contenders Illenium, Major Lazer, Marshmello, Sylvan Esso and Ten City, to win the Best Dance/Electronic Album award for his seventh studio album, ‘Subconsciously.’

Expressing his gratitude, Black Coffee, who was accompanied by his son Esona to receive the prestigious plaque, said; “I want to thank God for the gift of music and being able to share it with the world, to heal souls and help people go through whatever they are going through in life.”

“Thank you to my fans around the world for believing in me. I want to thank my family and my children,” he added in his Grammy speech, while thanking his fans.
