I worked for 10 years in the corporate world before Nollywood – Uzor Arukwe tells all

Uzor has opened up on his bittersweet journey into the make believe scene after working in the corporate world for 10 years.

There are some costs associated with fame and charming Nollywood actor, Uzor Arukwe has paid his dues and is now enjoying his years of labor.In a recent interview, Uzor Arukwe talked about his early days in Nollywood and how he rose to fame.

The Kambili actor also disclosed how he left a corporate job after ten years to pursue a career in Nollywood, as well as the hurdles he faced in his early years. In his words:

“The challenges I faced were basically being undermined and underrated.

A lot of people did not know what my capabilities were, so they were not sure if I could act or not. I had to prove that I knew what I was doing and I was good at it. I have been trained for this and waiting for opportunities (for some time).”

He added:

“also the fees one got for acting was ridiculous. One could act a role or two, and be paid as low as N1,000. It was terrible but like in every other industry, one has to keep pushing. One must be consistent and persistent.”

Uzor Arukwe claimed that he spent ten years working in the retail and telecoms industries before making the courageous move into Nollywood. The actor told Punch NG:

“I always wanted to be a professional actor. I wanted to make a living from it. I worked for 10 years in the corporate world. I spent five years in a telecommunication company and another five years in a retail company that was into sport equipment.”
