Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, has withdrawn the name of Samaila Burga, a pharmacist, from the list of 17 commissioner-nominees he sent to the state House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.

The governor had, on Tuesday, submitted 17 names through a memo to the Assembly, seeking it to screen and confirm the nominees which comprise new and former persons in the cabinet he dissolved three months ago.

Burga, who hails from Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of the state, served as Commissioner of Agriculture for about two years.

He is one of the two nominees from Tafawa Balewa LGA whose names the governor had sent to the Assembly.

The governor’s letter was read by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon Tijjani Aliyu, during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Hon. Abubakar Suleiman.

The governor did not, however, give any reason for withdrawing Burga’s name.

The House directed the House Committee on Rules and Business to come up with time table for the screening of the Commissioner nominees which will commence next Tuesday.

During plenary on Tuesday, the House, after the governor’s letter was read, said that it will not screen the nominees sent by the governor until the Assembly might have received the nominees’ Curriculum Vitae.

The Majority Leader, Tijjani Aliyu, was mandated to communicate to the governor the decision of the House.

The House adjourned its sitting to Thursday, 19th August, 2021.
