Mauricio Pochettino, Paris Saint-Germain manager, has said he substituted Lionel Messi at half time against Lille “as a precaution”.

The 34-year-old was taken off after 45 minutes in Friday’s Ligue 1 fixture.

Mauro Icardi replaced Messi at the start of the second half with PSG losing 1-0.

However, Pochettino’s men turned the game around, with Marquinhos making it 1-1 in the 77th minute, before Angel Di Maria scored the winner with two minutes left.

Speaking about his decision to take off Messi, Pochettino told Amazon Prime: “We have to wait. We spoke with the doctor.

“It’s a precaution. He couldn’t go on, but it’s not a big issue. He will be available for the next game.”

Messi is yet to find the back of the net for PSG in the league, but has three goals in the Champions League.
