The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has received five more powerful Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).

The equipment will strengthen surveillance operations in order to put a stop to criminal activity in the nation.

Inspector-General Usman Baba’s technology-driven policing was underlined in a statement by Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi.

According to the spokesman, the acquisition would combine the use of cutting-edge technology in law enforcement, as well as improve information collection and operational capabilities.

“The drones will assist the Police in monitoring active crime scenes, coordinating response operations, and providing aerial support to responding officers”, he said.

The UAVs include an ALTI Transition, capable of covering up to 150km in a single flight with high endurance of up to 14 hours, and an Elistair Orion fixed-wing aircraft.

They can cover up to 92m altitude with high endurance of up to 50 hours and other sensitive and forensic-based features.

The drones will be remotely operated by pilots from the Police Airwing who have undergone specialized training from the Engineers of the Elistair company.

Baba has directed the immediate and strategic deployment of the UAVs to areas prone to high-security breaches.
