The Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organization is optimistic that former President Olusegun Obasanjo will back his former vice president in winning the presidency.

Obasanjo is aware of the candidate’s potential, according to campaign spokesman Charles Aniagwu.

Aniagwu, Delta’s Commissioner for Information, spoke with reporters in Asaba on Wednesday.

He recalled that during the most recent general election, Obasanjo had backed the PDP candidate.

According to Aniagwu, Atiku helped the nation’s economy be repositioned between 1999 and 2007 while serving as the Head of State for a single term.

“Atiku was more or less Obasanjo’s candidate, so if he supported him that much, I don’t think anything has changed between 2019 and now.

“The same God that led him to support Atiku in 2019 is still alive and will lead him to know that Atiku.

“Obasanjo saw the ability of Atiku in 1999, and he chose him against all odds to become his running mate”, NAN quoted him saying.

The media aide said they were optimistic that Obasanjo, will in the interest of Nigeria and in line with his patriotic ideals, support Atiku in 2023.

Aniagwu insisted that the former vice president has what it takes to rescue the country from the current situation.

On the disagreement in the PDP, the commissioner said Atiku recognised the fact that there were some issues, and would lead the team to address them.
