The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) leadership has denied social media reports that the Christian body has endorsed Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

Bishop Emmah Isong, National Publicity Secretary of the PFN, spoke on Friday from Bayelsa State, where the organization is holding its 17th Biennial Conference.

I want you to know that nothing like that had ever happened in the history of the PFN and it will not happen. We have not endorsed any political party or any presidential candidate.

What we have ongoing is the 17th Biennial Conference of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria PFN, titled, ‘More Than Conquerors,’ in Bayelsa state, he stated.

Isong called the trending report “fake news” and advised Nigerians to disregard it.

He believes the report was written to undermine the body’s integrity and bring it into disrepute.

He said:

We, coincidentally, had Vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Gov Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state, and former governor of Anambra and presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, same day who came in to fellowship with us.

And at no point did the National President, His Eminence Bishop Dr. Wale Oke nor the fathers of faith of NEC endorsed any presidential candidate or political party. That has not happened. I believe whatever you have read regarding that issue is junk and fake news.

He stated that the conference provided an opportunity for all Christians, particularly those in positions of power, to come together and fellowship with Church leaders in Nigeria, but that no endorsement was given at the conference.

The PFN scribe urged Nigeria’s 60 million Christians to research the candidates and vote according to their conscience, emphasizing that the Christian body would not and could not force any Christian to vote for a specific candidate.

While maintaining that the PFN was non-partisan, Bishop Isong urged all political party supporters to refrain from using social media to spread rumors that could harm the country.
