  • The Ondo State House of Assembly has given Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa a seven-day deadline to respond to corruption allegations
  • The allegations include misappropriation of funds and constitutional violations during his time as acting governor

The Ondo State House of Assembly has given the state’s Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, a seven-day deadline to respond to corruption allegations against him.

Oshati Olatunji, Chairman of the Ondo State House of Assembly Committee on Information, stated this during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today.

The House of Assembly announced that removing the deputy governor had begun.

The House charged Lucky Aiyedatiwa with gross misconduct while serving as acting governor while Governor Rotimi Akeredolu was abroad on a three-month sick leave.

Olatunji said;

There are allegations against the deputy governor bordering on misappropriation of funds. We are duty bound as legislators to do our job. We are not witch-hunting anybody.

This includes a N30 million allegation and violation of the constitution. What we are saying is that he should give us a reply to these allegations within seven days.

Ondo Assembly moves to impeach Akeredolu’s deputy, Aiyedatiwa

The political crisis in Ondo state has taken a new dimension with the fate of the deputy governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, hanging in the balance.

Aiyedatiwa and the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, have been in a cold war since the governor returned from his medical vacation in Germany.

Last week, Akeredolu sacked all the media aides of Aiyedatiwa, raising concerns about the status of the duo’s relationship.

However, the imbroglio seemed to reach a tipping point on Wednesday after the Ondo State House of Assembly initiated removing Aiyedatiwa.

The House accused the embattled deputy governor of being involved in some acts of gross misconduct while in office as the acting governor.
