  • Gunmen killed three IDPs while they were fishing in Benue State’s Gwer West LGA, as reported by the camp chairman
  • The victims had ventured out for fishing but were attacked and fatally shot; their bodies were discovered the following morning

Gunmen reportedly killed three Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) while they were fishing in the Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State. Ibaah Terna Jacob, the chairman of Agagbe IDP camp in Gwer West LGA, disclosed that the victims had gone fishing on Monday but were attacked by armed assailants who fatally shot them.

The victims were identified as Igbahemba Abua, Iorhemba Cletus, and Akaa Clifford. They had ventured out for fishing in the Gbange/Tongov council ward of Gwer West but failed to return as night fell.

During a search for the missing individuals, an eyewitness informed the community that the trio had been chased and fired upon by armed invaders. Following an intensive search, the lifeless bodies of the victims were discovered on Tuesday morning and promptly laid to rest.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Catherine Anene, stated that she had not yet received the report on the incident.

Gunmen Release Kidnapped Nasarawa Varsity Lecturer

Dr. Comfort Adokwe, a lecturer at Nasarawa State University, was kidnapped on Sunday but has since been released.

According to the Daily Post, gunmen kidnapped Adokwe, a lecturer in the university’s Faculty of Administration and Deputy Director of Gender Studies, on Sunday night from her home in Angwan Jaba in Keffi.

Comfort’s brother, Timothy Adokwe, verified the release over the phone with Daily Post.

“Yes, she was released around 8:30,” he said.

He said the kidnappers initially demanded a N100million ransom.

He confirmed that the family paid an undisclosed amount to secure her freedom.

Timothy, however, lauded the military and the Department of State Services, DSS, for their involvement in the release of his sister, saying that though they could not go closer to avoid any harm to Comfort, they monitored via satellite.
