  • APC support groups warn recalled envoys, accusing Nigerian High Commissioner to Zambia of sponsoring media campaigns against the government
  • The coalition demands an end to alleged orchestrated media war, emphasizing the need to protect President Tinubu and Nigeria’s sovereignty

A Coalition of All Progressives Congress (APC) support groups issued a stern warning to recalled envoys, urging them to refrain from tarnishing Nigeria’s image abroad. The coalition, in a press conference in Abuja, accused certain envoys, specifically pointing to Nigerian High Commissioner to Zambia, Ambassador Ominiyi Eze, of allegedly sponsoring media campaigns against the Federal Government and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

President Tinubu had recalled all Nigerian ambassadors in a statement on September 2, 2023. The APC groups, represented by Rabi Garba Dangizo, Director General of Progressive Arewa People Support, ASIWAJU/Shattima (PAPSA), and Adewale Adeogun, Founder/National Coordinator of Asiwaju Progressive Forum and National Coordinator of Tinubu National Think Tank (TNT), expressed dismay at the recalled envoys’ activities, alleging breaches of Nigeria’s security.

The groups accused the envoys of engaging in a media war against the government and releasing documents that violate the Official Secrets Act. They asserted that such actions undermine the envoys’ sworn oaths and violate rules and regulations governing public officials in Nigeria, constituting an offense.

The coalition emphasized that the diplomatic recall, meant to be a routine process, has transformed into a campaign tarnishing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, government officials, and the country’s symbols. On claims of pending entitlements, the groups revealed that severance payments, known as passages, have been sent to the recalled envoys through the Central Bank of Nigeria.

In conclusion, the APC support groups demanded an end to the alleged orchestrated media war to protect the integrity of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigeria’s sovereignty. They specifically called on Ambassador Ominiyi Eze and others to desist from causing international embarrassment to President Tinubu and the Nigerian government.
