  • Haruna Kassimu, Special Adviser to Nasarawa State Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, confirmed the abduction of council boss and one other on January 1st, 2024.
  • DSP Ramhan Nanselin Lafia announced that Umar Nadada, the state’s Police Commissioner, has mobilized personnel for the possible rescue of the chairman and another kidnapped person.

The kidnappers of a local government chairman and another person in Nasarawa State last night demanded N50 million in exchange for their victims’ freedom.

Recall that yesterday at approximately 8:30 p.m., two individuals were abducted along the Adaha-Akwanga road in the state’s Akwanga Local Government Area: Alhaji Safiyanu Isah Andaha, the Chairman of the Akwanga Local Government Council, and Adamu Umar Tanko.

According to a family source who begged to remain anonymous, talks between the family and the gunmen are still going on, as Vanguard learned this morning.

The kidnapping of the head of the council and another person at Ningo village at approximately 8:30 p.m. on January 1, 2024, was confirmed yesterday by Haruna Kassimu, Special Advisor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to the Nasarawa State Governor.

In the meantime, the Nasarawa State Police Command has said that it is looking into the kidnapping of Adamu Umar Tanko, who was also taken along with the council chairman, and Safiyanu Isa-Andaha, the chairman of the Akwanga Local Government Area.

On Tuesday, DSP Ramhan Nanselin Lafia, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), revealed that Umar Nadada, the state’s commissioner of police, had deployed personnel in case the chairman and another kidnapped individual needed to be rescued.

“The police, in collaboration with other security agencies, are currently on the trail of the kidnappers to ensure the release of the council chairman and the other victim.

Nansel therefore urged members of the public, especially people from villages around the area, to provide the police with credible information that would lead to the rescue of the abducted and the arrest of the perpetrators.
