ACReSAL Aims to Plant 10 Million Trees in Kano State Over Four Years

The Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) has announced plans to plant over 10 million trees across Kano State in the next four years. Dr. Dahir Muhammad Hashim, the Kano State ACReSAL Project Coordinator, shared this initiative during an interview with a Kano-based radio station.

Hashim emphasized that the tree-planting initiative aims to combat desertification, alleviate the impact of climate change, enhance soil fertility, and reduce evapotranspiration rates. The project intends to plant 2.5 million trees annually, starting this year, in collaboration with civil society organizations and other agencies.

The designated areas for tree planting span across the entire state, including major metropolitan roads, contributing to improved air quality. Hashim assured that all stakeholders have an unwavering commitment to achieving the set target, differentiating this initiative from previous unsuccessful attempts to address deforestation.

The ACReSAL scheme, a joint effort involving the World Bank, the Federal Government of Nigeria, and the governments of the 19 northern states, is also working on providing fuel-efficient cooking stoves to discourage the indiscriminate felling of trees for firewood. This holistic approach reflects a comprehensive strategy to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable practices in Kano State.

Kano Gov Yusuf swears in 21 Perm Secs

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has said that the appointments of new permanent secretaries in the state were done fairly and without any political undertone.

Speaking while swearing in 21 new permanent secretaries and 14 special advisers, Governor Yusuf said on Tuesday that the choice of the new appointees was made after careful consideration.

Addressing them, he said: “We selected the best in competence, experience, dedication to duty, and proven fear of God. That is why we expect you to perform to the optimal high point for a better Kano.

“You should consider your appointment a valued one that is desirable in the new dispensation of the NNPP, and as such, you should maintain decorum and professionalism in your duties.”
