In a recent interview, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri addressed concerns about the perceived crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), particularly concerning issues involving FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

Contrary to speculation, Governor Fintiri emphasized the party’s stability, stating, “The PDP is thriving in party politics; we don’t have a crisis.” He clarified that the removal of Chairman Iyorchia Ayu was due to a conflict within his ward, creating a vacancy that Deputy National Chairman (North) has effectively filled.

Asked about the potential for Ambassador Umar Damagun to become the substantive chairman, Fintiri expressed confidence, citing Damagun’s versatility and ability to foster unity within the party.

Addressing concerns about Wike’s role and impact, Governor Fintiri defended Wike, asserting that the former Rivers State governor hadn’t committed any wrongdoing warranting disciplinary action. He highlighted Wike’s acceptance of a role in the APC-led federal government, emphasizing its focus on governance and national unity. Fintiri reiterated that Wike remains a committed PDP member actively participating in party meetings.

Governor Fintiri urged patience, emphasizing the need to distinguish between governance and politics. He argued against hastily categorizing the current government as ineffective, considering the nation’s numerous crises. Fintiri stressed the importance of allowing time for governance before expecting the PDP to assume a more assertive opposition role.
