  • NIHOTOUR aims to revolutionize hospitality training with mobile kitchen trucks reaching Nigeria’s hinterlands, expanding beyond existing campuses
  • The Mobile Training Kitchen, 95% eco-friendly, features state-of-the-art equipment and aims to enhance hospitality and catering skills development nationwide

The National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) is set to revolutionize hospitality training by deploying mobile kitchen trucks to Nigeria’s hinterlands, expanding its reach beyond existing campuses.

Nura Kangiwa, NIHOTOUR’s Director General, disclosed this in a statement released by Joesef Karim, the institute’s Public Relations Officer, on Friday.

Kangiwa highlighted the purpose of the mobile training kitchen trucks, emphasizing their role in hospitality and catering skills development, training, and live demonstrations. The official launch is scheduled for Tuesday, February 6, with Minister of Tourism, Mrs. Lola Ade-John, officiating.

The NIHOTOUR Mobile Training Kitchen is designed to be 95% eco-friendly, featuring equipment and power generators running on LPG. Kangiwa detailed the state-of-the-art kitchen equipment, including a professional 5-burner gas cooker, a double-door tower fridge with an ice maker and crusher, a display fridge and freezer for ice cream, and a gas-powered double deep fryer.

Among other features are a griddle with dual surface heating, a heavy-duty microwave, a 500-litre water tank with a dedicated pressure pump for the kitchen sink, a gas-powered 16-dish food warmer, a kitchen blender centre, a 10kva generator, a high-power electric inverter air conditioner, carbon dioxide and other deadly gas emission detectors, and a multi-cylinder fire extinguisher for on-board safety.

Kangiwa outlined the objective behind investing in this high-quality mobile training platform, stating, “As an agency of the Federal Government responsible for training and upskilling personnel in Nigeria’s hospitality sector, this truck will enable us to take our training to locations where we are yet to set up a campus or training center.”

Highlighting the broader impact, Kangiwa noted that acquiring mobile training trucks aligns with NIHOTOUR’s goal of bringing training closer to hinterland stakeholders, enhancing market presence sub-nationally, and expanding the institute’s reach within the hospitality and tourism industry.
