  • APC Chairman Ganduje faces a 16-day ultimatum to convene key party meetings or face legal action from former Vice Chairman Lukman
  • Lukman emphasized the importance of these meetings for effective governance, warning of legal action for non-compliance with the party’s constitution

The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has been given a 16-day ultimatum to convene meetings of the party’s various organs or face legal action. Since Ganduje assumed office on August 3, 2023, key party organs such as the National Executive Committee (NEC), the National Caucus, and the National Advisory Council (also known as the Board of Trustees or BoT) have not met.

The NEC is the second-highest decision-making body of the APC after the national convention. Although the National Working Committee (NWC), responsible for the party’s day-to-day operations, has been meeting regularly, the NEC and other important bodies have not convened.

In a letter dated May 21 addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former APC National Vice Chairman (North West) Salihu Mohammed Lukman requested that the president compel Ganduje to call these meetings within 16 days. The letter, which was made available to the press on Wednesday in Abuja, was also copied to Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum Hope Uzodinma, and Ganduje himself.

Lukman emphasized the importance of these meetings for effective governance and decision-making within the APC. He warned that failure to convene these meetings would result in legal action to ensure compliance with the party’s constitution and democratic principles.
