Edo State Government has insisted that Omobayo Marvellous Godwin remains the Deputy Governor of the state.

The State’s Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, made this known in a statement in Benin on Wednesday.

According to Nehikhare, the State has filed a stay of execution of the Federal High Court judgement.

This is coming after a Federal High Court on Wednesday in Abuja through a judgement nullified the impeachment of the erstwhile Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu.

“Pending the hearing of the appeal of the judgement, the incumbent Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Omobayo Marvellous Godwins remains and continues to serve as the valid Deputy Governor of Edo State,” Nehikhare said.

“He will continue to serve in this capacity and will be recognised as such.”

The government, however, called on the people of the state to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses.
