  • The New Nigeria People’s Party announces nomination fees for local government elections, requiring N500,000 for chairmanship and N150,000 for councillorship aspirants
  • NNPP Chairman Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa emphasizes strict candidate standards, including academic verification and drug tests, to enhance local government management

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano has announced nomination fees for chairmanship and councillorship aspirants in the upcoming local government elections. The party’s Chairman in Kano, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, disclosed that chairmanship aspirants must pay a nomination fee of N500,000 and an additional N100,000 for an expression of interest form. Councillorship aspirants will pay N150,000 for the nomination fee and N50,000 for the expression of interest.

Dungurawa emphasized the party’s commitment to providing all aspirants a fair and level playing field. He also called on those currently holding either elective or appointed positions to resign, as stipulated by the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) guidelines.

The NNPP Chairman praised the State Electoral Commission’s decision to set high fees for the expression of interest forms—N10 million for chairmanship candidates and N5 million for councillorship candidates. He argued that this would ensure only high-quality candidates with strong credentials would participate in the election, thereby enhancing the effective management of local governments in the state.

Dungurawa also highlighted the party’s efforts to maintain strict standards for candidates. The NNPP has established a screening committee to review the academic backgrounds of prospective candidates and conduct drug-related tests on them. The party plans to use WAEC scratch cards to verify the educational qualifications of candidates and check for any criminal or drug-related history, ensuring that only individuals with sound character and integrity are chosen to lead.
