  • Nyesom Wike reveals PDP governors nominated individuals for federal appointments, countering claims of being a mole within the party
  • Wike emphasizes transparency in his actions, urging other PDP members to acknowledge their nominations to President Tinubu for appointments

Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, revealed that governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wrote to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, nominating individuals for federal appointments.

During an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Wike made this statement, countering claims that he is a mole in the PDP. Recently, Wike and PDP governors exchanged heated remarks over party leadership in Rivers State, with Wike warning of potential issues in their states. In contrast, the governors labelled his comments as irresponsible.

Defending his support for Tinubu, Wike cited reasons of “justice and fairness,” explaining that he formally communicated his acceptance of the ministerial position to various PDP levels, including the national, zonal, and state branches.

“Before I took this appointment, I wrote to the PDP at all levels,” Wike said. “Even my governor co-signed a letter endorsing my appointment. Who in the PDP did not write or nominate names to President Tinubu for appointments? They did! Let them deny it.”

Wike challenged any PDP governor or National Working Committee (NWC) member to refute his claim that they also publicly submitted nominations. He emphasized his transparency, adding that his actions were driven by fairness and that he continues to lead the PDP in Rivers State.

In the 2023 elections, Wike pointed out that despite his decision not to back the PDP presidential candidate, the party still triumphed in the governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly elections in Rivers. He contrasted this success with the situation in states governed by his critics, highlighting Rivers’ strong performance as a sign of leadership.

“I did not support the PDP presidential candidate because I believed it was against equity and justice. I didn’t do it in secret. Yet, PDP won 100% in Rivers State,” Wike concluded.
