  • The process will begin with the sale of forms

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially released its timetable for the 2025 zonal congresses, where new Zonal Working Committees (ZWC) and National Ex-officio members will be elected.

This decision, made by the National Working Committee (NWC) at its 592nd meeting, comes as the current tenures of the zonal executives in the South-South, South East, South West, North Central, and North East zones near expiration.

According to the approved schedule, the process will begin with the sale of forms for all ZWC positions and National Ex-officio roles from Monday, November 18, 2024, to Wednesday, December 18, 2024.

The party has advised intending aspirants to submit their completed Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms to the Directorate of Organization and Mobilization by Friday, January 17, 2025.

Other activities in the timetable include the screening of aspirants at the zonal headquarters on Saturday, January 25, 2025, followed by the screening appeals process a week later, on February 1, 2025.

The list of cleared aspirants will be published on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, with delegate lists following on Thursday, February 13, 2025.

The zonal congresses for the North East, South East, and South South zones are scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2025, while the zonal congresses for the North Central and South West zones will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025.

Appeals on the outcomes of these congresses will take place shortly afterward on February 25 and March 26, respectively.

In a statement signed by Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, made available to the media on Monday, the NWC called on all party leaders, stakeholders, and members to remain united and committed to the progress of the party.

It urged all aspiring candidates to contact the Directorate of Organization and Mobilization or the Directorate of Finance at the party’s National Secretariat for information on applicable fees and other inquiries.

The upcoming zonal congresses are seen as critical for the PDP as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.

By electing new leadership at the zonal level, the party aims to strengthen its grassroots presence and enhance internal cohesion as it strategizes for future electoral success.

The NWC encouraged all members to work diligently towards the success of the congresses and reiterated the party’s commitment to upholding a transparent and democratic process.
