The Edo State’s Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has expressed willingness to transfer power to newly elected officials, regardless of outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki’s presence.

Shaibu addressed rumors about Obaseki’s absence, stating his readiness to hand over to Governor-elect Monday Okpebholo and his deputy.

On Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Shaibu shared his thoughts on the transition.

“I am deeply happy to hand over to the new deputy governor,” he said.

Normally, the deputy governor would handle the transition if the governor was absent.

Shaibu revealed his complicated relationship with Obaseki.

“The governor and I have been apart. He doesn’t communicate with me, and we don’t talk,” Shaibu stated.

He reflected on his experience working with Obaseki.

“Although loyal, I faced many challenges,” Shaibu admitted.

He returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after initially leaving for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) due to loyalty to Obaseki.

“Yes. I am back in APC. I am one of the very young guys that started the APC in Edo State. Because of loyalty, I went with my governor,” he said.

“I decamped from APC to PDP not because I wanted to, but because I wanted to but because I was loyal to Obeseki. I left APC because of him, and I am back to APC because of him.

“I thank him for the opportunity to be able to reunite with my father, Oshimole who I quarrelled with because of Obaseki”.
