Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has lambasted and knocked some traditional rulers for attending an official function of the state without their staff of offices.
Nyesom Wike inside a video ordered traditional rulers who graced the events and stand up with their staff of offices but there was a low turnouts of traditional rulers who use staff of office.
I hope you understand the implication of staff of office, so you should not come here with ordinary sticks. Maybe I should collect it and give it toto other people who are ready to use it, a rather visibly angry Governor of Rivers State.
Governor Wike enlightened the traditional rulers that the staff of office differentiates them from people who walk around with ordinary sticks.
“It seems you do not know the authority it carries. It indicates that you are a recognised government traditional chief and anytime I come to address you and you carry ordinary walking sticks. I will give your style to other person, Nyesom Wike fumed.
Governor Wike disclosed that nobody can carry the type of staff of office with the traditional rulers if such individual is not a recognised ruler. He told the traditional rulers that the staff of office is not for the palace or shrine but to be recognised by the government.
While lambasting the traditional rulers, Governor Wike further revealed that he will pass a bill to the state house of assembly that would prevent someone who is not a traditional ruler to be addressed as your royal highness.
The new revelation of the Governor made the traditional rulers to cheer the governor but they were cautioned by the governor who asked them not to clap and said that they are selfish and the bill is to protect the traditional institution.
Wike who was apparently not happy with some traditional rulers ordered one of the rulers to stop shaking his head and accused him of causing havoc and tension in his community.
Some people use chieftaincy titles to cause tension and havoc in their communities. You are fake and some people will wear big regalia but you will not know that they are small boys and they had once ran errand for us. They are now dressing like Usman dan fodio and breaching protocols all around, he lambasted the yet-to-be identified traditional ruler.
