10 years later, Tweet that changed Wizkid’s career surfaces on social media

Every popular entertainers have a story to tell about their journey to Stardom, some successes comes easy while others made breakthrough after series of though attempts. However, as for Wizkid, a tweet from him throwing his shot at Banky W marked the beginning of his journey to being a Super Star 10 years ago.

The saying Social media never forgets has been proven right after a message Wizkid sent to his boss, BankyW 10 years ago surfaced on the internet. In the message, 29 year old Wizkid was seen asking for help from BankyW who was the CEO of the Record Label (EME).

Wizkid who is arguably one of Nigerian biggest music star of the moment signed a record deal with Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E) in 2009. He rose to prominence after releasing “Holla at Your Boy”, the lead single from his debut studio album Superstar (2011). “Tease Me/Bad Guys”, “Don’t Dull”, “Love My Baby”, “Pakurumo” and “Oluwa Lo Ni” were also released as singles from the Superstar album.

In February 2014, Wizkid became the first ever Nigerian musician to have over 1 million followers on Twitter. Ayo, his self-titled second studio album, was released in September 2014. It was supported by six singles: “Jaiye Jaiye”, “On Top Your Matter”, “One Question”, “Joy”, “Bombay” and “Show You the Money”. Wizkid left E.M.E after his contract expired.
