Sex-for-passport: Family of sacked embassy guard alleges conspiracy

After being sacked by the Nigerian Embassy in Germany for allegedly demanding sex from passport applicants in the country, the family of Mr Martins Oni, a security guard has accused some senior officials at the embassy of a gang-up against the embattled employee.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), among others, has been beckoned on by the his family to order a comprehensive probe into the matter to unravel the truth and the alleged corruption going on in the embassy.

The family said the embassy officials set Oni up because he was hindering them from carrying out passport racketeering in the embassy the way they wanted.

One of the siblings of the sacked guard, Mrs Iyabo Ojo, who spoke with our correspondent on Friday, said her brother was neither in charge of issuing passports nor booking appointments, adding that the allegation of sex-for-passport was just concocted to get him out of the way.

Ojo said, “The so-called investigation was hurriedly done and the ambassador was said to have used a biro to write on the report of the panel that he should be sacked. The whole thing needs to be properly investigated so that the truth will be known to the whole world.

“We are calling on President Muhammadu Buhari, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs to probe this matter. We want the truth to come out to the whole world. My brother worked there for many years; he was not given a query, whereas some of these who set him up had been queried for corruption and other criminal activities in the past. They wanted to get rid of him and they have done that.”

She stated that though her brother could be accused of extramarital affairs by his wife, he could not be accused of soliciting sex for an expedited passport application “because that is not what happened.”

She claimed that those who set him up had been trailing him for the past five years and they were happy he was sacked.

According to her, Oni’s traducers had not stopped even after his sacking. She alleged that their plan was to frame Oni and get him sacked so that he would probably commit suicide after his wife might have left him.

She added that her brother had a towel wrapped round him when those who shot his video came to the hotel room but that the towel was forcefully removed by his traducers.

She said, “The family is distraught about the whole thing but the sex-for-passport is even more worrisome now. My brother is not an immigration officer; he doesn’t have the power to issue passports or give applicants appointments. The lady in question knows this. He said the lady had collected her passport and said she would wait for him to close but he asked her to go.”
