At just one year old, Kenechukwu has already lived a story most parents never imagine. He was born prematurely at 30 weeks and spent 25 intense days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit before finally going home healthy and thriving.
For Nollywood actress Chizzy Alichi-Mbah and Chike Ugochukwu Mbah, this milestone isn’t just about cake and flowers. It’s a testament to fear, faith, perseverance, and overwhelming gratitude.
Today, March 4, 2026, as she reflects on sleepless nights, urgent prayers, and her son’s triumphant first year, the joy is deeper, richer, and rooted in the miracle of survival.
The Emergency Birth & NICU Journey
Chizzy Alichi and her film producer cum businessman husband Chike got married in 2019.
After six years of marriage, the couple welcomed their first child, a son named Kenechukwu, in early 2025. The journey to this “miracle” was challenging. Since their marriage in December 2019, the couple had faced childlessness, during which Chizzy revealed she endured mockery, harsh words from outsiders, and pressure on her husband to take another wife.
Early in her pregnancy, a medical condition was detected, leading to a difficult period of weekly scans and frequent bed rest both at home and in the hospital.
To mark Kene’s first birthday, Chizzy took to her Instagram account to share a video detailing her journey from her pregnancy at 7 months, preterm birth, afterbirth and more.
According to the video, at seven months pregnant, Chizzy Alichi found herself in a life-or-death battle, not just for herself, but for her unborn son. “My water had broken, I was spotting, contracting; I didn’t know what was happening,” she recalls. Around 4 a.m., she was rushed to the hospital on emergency. Her doctor immediately informed her that the only option was delivery. In her words:
“At around 4am I was rushed to the hospital on emergency. Immediately my doctor saw me, she said the only option we have was to bring out the baby.”
Two days prior, Chizzy had already been hospitalized for spotting, but the situation worsened. “Because two days earlier I was in the hospital, I was equally spotting and was there for bed rest. Doctor said no, we have to bring out the baby…”
“Look at my boy here…he weighed 1.4kg and the weight dropped to 1.2kg. They went straight to the NICU,” she shared. For 25 long days, she could only watch from afar, pumping breast milk and sending it to him, wondering, “Can you imagine going home after delivery without your child?.”
The first time she saw him after the operation, Chizzy recalled how she broke down. “I saw how little he was… my eyes were swollen. I asked the doctor, ‘Is he going to survive?’ The doctor said, ‘Why not? We have had worse cases.’ That gave me hope.”
Chizzy shared how Kenechukwu was so tiny at birth that even the smallest baby caps had to be adjusted with tape. She added that her boy wasn’t circumcised until three months later, and baths didn’t start until he had gained enough weight. Through it all, Chizzy’s faith never wavered. She said: “The God that did this, that gave me this bundle of joy, will perfect everything.”
In the video, the actress shared how slowly but steadily, the milestones came. From opening his eyes, fitting into clothes and gaining strength. And before she knew it, her miracle baby had reached his first birthday. Chizzy said:
“God is faithful. I am a testimony. If you don’t know that God is a miracle worker, use me as an example. I pray for you today, my boy, for bringing joy to our family. You will never know sadness in your life, in the name of Jesus. Amen.”
Faith, Gratitude & First Birthday Celebration

As Kenechukwu clocks one, Chizzy Alichi’s joy is both heartfelt and deeply reflective. What began as a terrifying journey filled with a premature birth, weeks in the NICU, and countless moments of uncertainty, transformed into a celebration of life, resilience, and divine providence.
Sharing her gratitude, Chizzy captioned her video, “Kenechukwu is one year old today. God is faithful and we return all the glory and adoration to him. Those that put their trust in God can Never be put to shame.”
Her words are not just about survival but about the power of faith and hope in the face of overwhelming odds. Every tiny milestone, from gaining weight to smiling for the first time has become a precious victory, each one reminding her of the miracle she holds in her arms.
Today, Kenechukwu is healthy, thriving, and a living testament to the perseverance, love, and unwavering faith that guided his early days.
Closing

From the terrifying uncertainty of a 7-month premature birth to the joy of his first birthday, Kenechukwu’s journey has been nothing short of miraculous. For Chizzy Alichi, every tear, every sleepless night, and every prayer has culminated in this moment of pure celebration. Holding her son, she reflects not just on the fragility of life, but on the strength of faith, the power of perseverance, and the boundless love that defines motherhood.
One year later, her “bundle of joy” stands as a testament to survival, hope, and the miracles that life can bring.
