A Voice Silenced: Tribute to Oyo-born gospel artist, Taiwo of Adegbodu Twins

Death is incredibly cold, but it hurts like hell. It shows no consideration for anyone. In addition to being strong, its string is quite unpredictable. It lacked flavor. It can sting anybody it chooses, regardless of age, income, poverty, or disadvantage. Even though the grim reaper’s deeds are agonizing, they serve as a reminder of both all men’s mortality, regardless of status, age, tribe, or affiliation, and the futility of this life. It reminds us that no one can live forever, and that life is transient.

Taiwo Adegbodu is now resting. Taiwo Adegbodu was one of the gospel artists who decried the premature death of Bunmi Akinnaanu, popularly known as “Omije Ojumi,” who died on January 12, 2026, after a prolonged illness. “Oku n sunkun oku” means “the dead are mourning the dead,” according to Yoruba. While in mourning, Taiwo Adegbodu was unaware that the awful reaper had identified him as tthe receiver of his next big stick in Nigeria’s music industry, and that death was on the horizon.

The grim reaper, who murdered Bunmi Akinnaanu, has used his large stick on Taiwo Adegbodu. The Oyo-born gospel performer who sought solace in ‘Tungba’ music has died. Shortly after his death, a video of him testifying about how he almost died before one of his children notified other family members appeared on social media. He was grateful and thankful, but he was unaware that death only scares when the timing is not right.

Weeks later, the grim reaper took another shot and did not miss. Taiwo Adegbodu was also killed in the shooting. His death was devastating, painful, shocking, and heartbreaking. Many notable Nigerians have expressed shock over his tragic death. If money, fame, or good character could be exchanged, many people would have given up everything for his return.

Taiwo Adegbodu was a musical phenomenon. He was a timeless gospel artist. His understanding of musical percussion and ability to compose new songs that are topical and spiritually uplifting set him apart. If Death had opted for a musical performance that would make him dance as well as appeasement for wadding off his stick, Taiwo Adegbolu would have offered a thousand and averted the sting of death. He have infinite talent.

He was not only talented, but also hardworking, determined, and dedicated. He was a man of resilience. His path to popularity was difficult, but he refused to give up on life’s challenges. He braved storms and walked over thorny terrain. His tale as a wandering youngster from Oyo streets who battled so hard and developed a musical empire is still inspiring.

Taiwo Adegbodu’s death is a devastating loss for Nigeria’s music industry, and an even greater loss for the gospel music sector. He began his musical career in the late 1900s as an aimless young man relying solely on his talent. He suffered greatly as an emerging artist. True, there will be comfort after the discomfort. He had his debut in 1999, when he released Faratimi (Lean On Me), which propelled them into the national gospel arena.

However, Taiwo and his twin brother had sung and appeared in numerous songs, but there had been no major breakthrough. But Faratimi (Lean on Me) made a difference. They adopted the twin-harmony technique, which favored them, and the profound link to Yoruba worship music lubricated their route to musical greatness.

Unfortunately, Taiwo Adegbolu departed the stage at the anticipated start of the end. The Oyo-born gospel singer did not deceive the scary reaper. He enabled death to ridicule his admirers and the younger artists who looked to him for guidance. At 46, he took his final bow. Death prevented us from fully enjoying Taiwo Adegbodu. The man with boundless creativity who ensnared our minds with spiritual tunes mixed with high-quality percussion had passed away.

Taiwo Adegbolu’s death was not in vain, despite how agonizing it was. He overcame death. Yes, death can be overcome. Offspring, or legacy, is the antidote for death. He has two stunning children. He and his twin brother created a musical empire that would survive them. Shame on the reaper. Shame on you, death! You won the battle but lost the war. Although you merely took Taiwo Adegbodu’s flesh, his soul and memories will live on. His followers and relatives are comforted by the exceptional and noble life he led.

The University of Lagos business administration and marketing graduate is no longer with us, but his musical performances at many church concerts, crusades, and gospel events around Nigeria and overseas will live on in our minds.

Taiwo Adegbodu died, yet his legacy lives on. He truly lost the fight with death, but he won the war.
