Former Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Lamido Abubakar Yuguda, has been nominated by President Bola Tinubu, as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), subject to confirmation by the Senate.


This was announced via a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.

According to Onanuga, the nomination is in accordance with Section 8(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.

The statement disclosed that Yuguda’s nomination follows the recent appointment of the former Deputy Governor, Mr. Bala Bello, as Special Adviser to the President on Political Economy.

President Tinubu urged the nominee to bring renewed dedication, professionalism, and commitment to the responsibilities of the office if confirmed by the Senate.

He was born in Kaduna, Nigeria

He attended Birnin Kudu primary school in 1955

He attended Barewa College, Zaria, Kaduna (1962-1966) where he completed his secondary school

He attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1983) where he obtained a degree in Accounting

He attended the University of Birmingham, UK (1991) where he obtained a M.Sc. in Money, Banking, and Finance

He holds a Certificate in Financial Asset Management and Engineering from the Swiss Finance Institute, Geneva

He also holds a Certificate in Investment Performance Management from the CFA Institute

He is a seasoned Nigerian economist and banker with over three decades of experience in banking, accounting, finance, economics, and investment management

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN)

He is also a CFA charter holder, having attended leadership training programs at top business schools like Harvard, INSEAD, and Oxford Saïd

He has served as Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Nigeria, Director of Reserve Management at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Washington DC
