For someone known for speaking boldly on social media, the sudden silence from Queeneth Hilbert surprised many of her followers.
The Nollywood actress, who had been at the centre of a heated online controversy involving fellow actors, announced that she would be stepping away from social media after a period of intense public drama.
But before leaving, Hilbert made a series of emotional posts in which she apologised to several colleagues whose names had become linked to the controversy. They included Destiny Etiko, Mercy Johnson and Yul Edochie.
Who Is Queeneth Hilbert?

Hilbert is a Nigerian-Lebanese actress and model who has spent more than a decade working in Nollywood.
Born in Lagos, she first gained attention as a model before transitioning into acting in the early 2010s. Over the years, she has appeared in several Nollywood productions and built a reputation for playing bold and confident characters on screen.
Beyond acting, Hilbert also developed a strong presence on social media, where she regularly shared updates about her lifestyle, career and personal views. Her outspoken personality often drew attention from fans and entertainment blogs.
The Controversy Begins
The conflict that eventually led to Hilbert’s social media break began with a public accusation directed at Destiny Etiko.
In a video posted on Instagram, Hilbert accused Etiko of having a pattern of becoming involved with the romantic partners of other women. She specifically alleged that the actress had taken one of her former boyfriends, whom she described as a wealthy man from Benin.
The video quickly circulated across entertainment blogs and social media platforms, sparking widespread reactions from fans.
Etiko strongly denied the allegations.
Through her lawyers, the actress issued a legal notice accusing Hilbert of defamation and demanding a public apology and ₦100 million in damages.
Mercy Johnson & Yul Edochie’s Name Enters the Conversation

More unexpected figures drawn into the wider discussion were veteran Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson and Yul Edochie.
Although Johnson was not directly involved in the original dispute between Hilbert and Etiko, her name later surfaced when Hilbert began addressing misunderstandings with several colleagues in the industry.
Edochie was also not directly involved in the dispute, but Hilbert acknowledged that she had previously made comments about him that may have been influenced by rumours circulating in the industry.
When the controversy intensified, Hilbert admitted that gossip and outside influences may have affected her relationships with other actors.
Her later apology suggested that the tension had spread beyond a single disagreement and had started to affect multiple connections within Nollywood.
Hilbert’s Emotional Apology

After days of online arguments and growing criticism, Hilbert took a different approach.
In a series of posts on Instagram, she apologised publicly to several colleagues, including Etiko, Edochie, Johnson and Angela Okorie.
Addressing Etiko directly, she suggested that outside voices may have worsened the conflict between them. In her words:
“Dear Destiny, you know the truth, and I know how hurt you are and have been, but these people wouldn’t let me be.
They gossip you to me and gossip me to you.
They’re called Blabbermouth and Gossip Monger.”
Hilbert admitted that she understood the pain the situation might have caused, saying:
“I’m telling the truth, and I get it if it takes you millions of years to heal, cause I would do the same.”
She also asked for forgiveness and expressed support for Etiko. She continued:
“Forgive your girl and forget. I’ve got your back, and I’m ready to take any lash from anyone, cause your heart is rare, seriously.”
The actress added that she believed gossip and misinformation had contributed to the situation, adding:
“I never knew all these things. I was on my own, and they brought it to me… but I have learnt better now.”
Announcing Her Social Media Hiatus
Alongside the apology, Hilbert revealed that she would be taking a break from social media.
In another emotional message, she explained that the events surrounding the controversy had left her feeling deeply hurt. She said:
“I’m so broken as I drop this.
Today, I am officially announcing that I will be off social media… to fix certain things and make peace with some certain spirits.”
She said the break would allow her to step away from negativity and reflect on recent events. She promised:
“I will move on as a new person and never be in the midst of any blabber mouths or gossip mongers again.”
Hilbert also thanked fans who had supported her throughout the controversy, concluding by saying she felt at peace with her decision:
“Thank you for all the love, and God bless you.
I don’t take you guys love for granted.”
“I have satisfied my conscience.”
Extending Apologies to Other Nollywood Figures
In another message, Hilbert addressed Edochie directly.
“Dear Yul, I’m sorry for any way I might have offended you.
Please let peace reign… I take all the blame.”
She also asked for forgiveness from Mercy Johnson and Angela Okorie. In her words:
“Mummy Purity, I’m sorry… I pray God, in His infinite mercy, will touch your heart and every other person forgives and forgets.”
The actress said the experience had taught her important lessons:
“I have learnt from this, and I believe God has a purpose.”
What Happens Next?
Hilbert’s decision to step away from social media reflects the growing pressure many celebrities face in the digital age, where personal disagreements can quickly turn into public controversies.
For now, the actress says she plans to focus on healing and rebuilding relationships within the industry.
Whether the break will lead to lasting peace among the actors involved remains to be seen.
