According to the Federal Government, the suspected putschists were plotting to instigate a war against the Federal Republic of Nigeria to oust President Tinubu.
The names and identities of those involved in the alleged plot to overthrow the government of President Bola Tinubu have been revealed.
The Nigerian government revealed their identities on Tuesday after filing treason charges against the alleged putschists.
The suspected coup plotters include former governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva, who has since fled the country and is now at large.
Others are Major General Mohammed Ibrahim Gana, Captain Erasmus Ochegobia Victor, Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim, Zekeri Umoru, Bukar Kashim Goni and Abdulkadir Sani.
In a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CR/206/2026 at the Abuja Federal High Court on Tuesday, the federal government filed a 13-count charge of terrorism against the alleged coupists.
The charge was filed by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and signed by the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN.
According to the Federal Government, the alleged putschists were plotting to instigate a war against the Federal Republic of Nigeria to oust President Tinubu.
The Federal Government also accused the defendants of treason, terrorism and failure to disclose security intelligence and money laundering linked to terrorism financing.
The alleged offence is said to be c and punishable under Section 37 (2) of the Criminal Code.
The alleged coup plotters are scheduled to be arraigned on April 22, before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
The defendants allegedly “conspired with one another to levy war against the state to overthrow the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” an offence punishable under Section 37 subsection 2 of the Criminal Code.
The prosecution further alleged that the defendants were aware of a planned treasonable act involving one Colonel Mohammed Alhassan Ma’aji and others but failed to alert authorities.
Beyond treason, the Federal Government is prosecuting the defendants for terrorism-related offences under the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, 2022.
