The Independent National Electoral Commission has thrown open its 2026 recruitment portal, and if you’ve been waiting for a shot at a federal job, the clock is already running. The application window opened on Monday, July 20, and shuts on Monday, July 27, which leaves just a few days for anyone still sitting on the fence.
INEC says the exercise is meant to beef up its workforce across electoral administration, voter registration, election logistics and data management. In plain terms: the commission needs more hands ahead of its constitutional duties, and it’s recruiting into entry-level and professional positions spanning Grade Levels 07, 08, 09, 10 and 12.

What positions is INEC recruiting for?
The 2026 exercise is split across three broad cadres, and where you fit depends entirely on your qualifications.
Professional Cadre (Grade Levels 09, 10 and 12) This is the biggest bracket, covering roles like Accountant, Lawyer, ICT Officer, Engineer, Clinical Officer and Quantity Surveyor. Applicants need a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent, and for some of these roles, a master’s degree in a relevant field will strengthen your application. INEC also wants to see recognised professional certifications, NBA for lawyers, COREN for engineers, NSE, NIQS, ICAN or ANAN for accountants, and CPN where applicable, plus at least two years of post-qualification experience and a valid NYSC discharge or exemption certificate.
Administrative Officer II — Registration Area Officer (Grade Level 08) This one’s aimed at graduates who want to get into the administrative and operational side of things. You’ll need a B.Sc., HND or an equivalent qualification in the Social Sciences, Humanities or Sciences, along with decent ICT and communication skills. Expect this role to involve a fair bit of data handling, documentation and record-keeping.
Executive Officer — Assistant Registration Area Officer (Grade Level 07) The entry point on the ladder. INEC is asking for a National Certificate in Education (NCE) or its equivalent, with reasonable computer literacy and organisational skills thrown in.
Who’s eligible to apply?
Beyond the academic requirements tied to each cadre, INEC has laid out a general eligibility criteria that applies across the board. You must:
- Be a Nigerian citizen with a valid state of origin certificate signed by your local government chairman or secretary
- Not be above 35 years of age at the time of application
- Be certified physically and mentally fit by a government medical officer
- Have no criminal record and demonstrate good character
- Be willing to serve anywhere in the country
- Show integrity and a genuine commitment to public service
That age cap is worth pausing on. If you’re a few months past 35, this particular window probably isn’t for you, and there’s no indication INEC is making exceptions.

The whole process happens online, and it’s completely free. INEC has been blunt about this, repeatedly warning applicants not to pay anyone, agent, “connection man,” or otherwise, for a form or a slot.

One detail that trips people up: once you select a vacancy, you cannot change it. So take your time on that step rather than rushing through it just to beat a queue.

The portal closes on Monday, July 27, 2026. INEC has already signalled it won’t budge on incomplete or late submissions, so don’t leave this for the last day, the portal tends to slow to a crawl once everyone panics at once.
A few other warnings from the commission worth repeating:
- Submitting more than one application will get you automatically disqualified
- No upgrading your qualifications or credentials after you’ve applied
- False information or forged documents will lead to disqualification, and potentially prosecution
- Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for the next stage — so don’t expect a rejection email if you don’t make the cut, just silence
