The Nigerian Air Force has thrown open its recruitment portal again, and this time the window is short. The Basic Military Training Course, BMTC 47/2026, went live for online registration on September 3, and the clock is already running. Applicants have until October 14 to get their forms in, five and a half weeks, no extensions promised, and NAF’s own history suggests portals can close the moment they hit their quota.

What’s Actually Open Right Now
BMTC 47/2026 is recruiting for two broad categories: Tradesmen/women and Non-Tradesmen/women. Both routes lead to the same place, enlisted service as an Airman or Airwoman, but they’re built for different kinds of applicants, and the age brackets aren’t identical, which trips a lot of people up every cycle.
Registration is entirely online, and it’s free. NAF has said this in practically every statement it has ever released about recruitment, and it bears repeating because the scam ecosystem around military hiring in Nigeria hasn’t gone anywhere. Nobody legitimate is going to ask you for money to “secure a slot” or “fast-track” your application. If someone does, that’s your answer.
Who Can Apply — And Who Can’t
The baseline requirements apply across both categories:
- Nigerian citizenship by birth
- Minimum height of 1.66m for men and 1.63m for women
- Medical, physical, and psychological fitness by NAF’s standards
- No prior criminal conviction
Beyond that, the two tracks split.
Non-Tradesmen/women need to be between 18 and 22 years old as of March 1, 2027. That’s a tighter window than the tradesmen category, and it catches people out every single recruitment cycle, someone turns 23 a month before the cutoff date and finds out too late that they’ve aged out. Academically, you need at least five credits in WAEC, NECO, GCE, NABTEB or NBAIS, obtained in no more than two sittings, and English and Mathematics have to be among them. You’ll also be asked for your primary school certificate and secondary school testimonials, so dig those out now rather than during the documentation stage when everyone’s panicking.
Tradesmen/women get a longer runway, 18 to 27 years old by the same March 2027 date. This category covers technicians, drivers, and applicants with a National Diploma or NCE (a Lower Credit minimum), on top of the same five-credit SSCE requirement. If you’re applying with a trade test background, you’ll need your Trade Test Certificate on hand. Drivers need a valid licence. There’s also a sportsmen/women pathway under this bracket for candidates who can show real competitive history, certificates, medals, the kind of evidence that actually holds up under scrutiny.
The Documents You’ll Need After Applying
Once you’ve submitted the form, the portal generates a set of documents you’re expected to print:
- Acknowledgment Form
- Parent/Guardian’s Consent Form
- Local Government Area Attestation Form
That last one is the one people underestimate. It has to be signed by a specific category of person, a military officer from your state of origin (Wing Commander rank or above, or the equivalent in the Army or Navy), a Police officer at Chief Superintendent level or higher, your Local Government Chairman or Secretary, or a Magistrate from your state. The signee’s passport photo and a copy of their ID, driver’s licence, national ID, or international passport, need to go with it. Show up to documentation without a properly signed attestation form and you’re not moving forward, no matter how strong the rest of your application is.
How the Application Actually Works
The process itself isn’t complicated, but skipping a step will cost you.
Head to nafrecruitment.airforce.mil.ng, pick your category, BMTC, and create a profile with your actual details. Not a family member’s, not a “corrected” birth date. NAF verifies age against your NIN and, later, your birth certificate, and any mismatch tends to surface at the worst possible moment. Fill in your bio-data and educational history, upload a recent passport photograph, your NIN slip, and scanned copies of your certificates in the file format the portal specifies. Before you hit submit, actually read back through what you entered, a misspelled name or a wrong exam number is the kind of thing that’s painless to fix at this stage and painful to fix later.
Once you submit, print everything the system generates and keep both digital and physical copies. Successful candidates move on to a Zonal General Aptitude Test, with dates to be announced through the portal, and only those who clear that stage get invited to the Selection Interview. NAF hasn’t published test centres or dates for this cycle yet, so keep checking the portal’s Updates page rather than relying on secondhand information from unofficial pages, several of which have, over past cycles, published wrong dates that got candidates disqualified for no-shows.
What Happened With the Last Intake
For context, the previous cycle, BMTC 46/2025, ran registration from October 14 to November 25, 2025. Selected candidates reported to the Military Training Centre at NAF Base Kaduna on July 19, 2026, with valid WAEC or NECO scratch cards for credential verification, and training got underway from there. That’s roughly an eight-month gap between registration closing and candidates reporting for training, a useful reminder that this isn’t a fast process. If you apply now, you’re likely looking at a similar runway before any of it becomes real.
What About DSSC?
For graduates eyeing a commission rather than enlisted service, the Direct Short Service Commission is the relevant route, but it isn’t part of this announcement, BMTC 47/2026 is strictly the enlisted-service exercise. The last DSSC intake, cycle 34/2025, closed registration in October 2025, and training for that cohort started earlier this year. NAF typically runs DSSC as a separate exercise with its own age brackets, generally 20 to 32 for most disciplines, with a wider allowance up to 40 for medical consultants, a second-class upper degree or upper credit HND, and a mandatory NYSC discharge certificate or exemption letter. Nothing has been announced yet for a new DSSC cycle, so graduates should watch the same portal rather than assume this BMTC window applies to them.
A Few Things Worth Saying Plainly
The Nigerian Air Force, under Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, has kept up a fairly consistent yearly recruitment rhythm even as the force has stayed heavily engaged, counter-insurgency operations in the northeast, the broader fight against banditry, and the kind of routine air operations that don’t make headlines. None of that changes what the application asks of you: accurate documents, the right signatures, and meeting the age cutoff on the date specified, not the date you apply.
If you’re within the eligibility window and you’ve been waiting for a cycle to open, this is that cycle. Five and a half weeks sounds like a lot until you’re the one hunting for a Magistrate’s signature in week five.
