The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, issued a fresh directive to Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates regarding changes to phone numbers and email addresses.
The board, in a new arrangement, announced the lifting of the ban on SIM swapping and email changes.
The development will allow candidates who have lost access to their registered details, like phone numbers and email accounts, to update them through a controlled process.
Why the ban was reversed
According to the examination body, the lifting of the restrictions, which took effect on Monday, September 21, 2026, was necessitated by the introduction of stronger identity and biometric verification measures.
In a statement by its Director of Communications, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB stated that these new measures would help curtail fraud, impersonation and unauthorised changes to candidates’ records.
How candidates can change important details
However, the facility can only be used once by each candidate and is available only at designated JAMB CBT, PTC/PRC Centres, including applicable state offices.
“Candidates seeking the service must provide their new GSM number and/or email address and a duly executed court affidavit, scanned and ready for upload, the statement read.
They are also required to log into their e-facility profile, make payment for the service and proceed to a designated centre for biometric verification before the details can be changed.
JAMB said candidates can request a change of the GSM number, email address or both.
“The SIM swap and/or email change service shall be available only once,” the Board stressed.
It implored candidates to use the facility only for genuine cases and patronise designated JAMB CBT centres.
The Board said the reviewed policy was intended to ensure that candidates who lose access to their registered credentials are not unnecessarily shortchanged or disadvantaged
