The background is simple enough. Maguire and Meyer announced their separation in October 2016, after nine years of marriage. Meyer did not formally file for divorce until October 2020. The paperwork, in other words, took a long time to catch up with a split that had long since settled into friendship.
Maguire and Meyer got engaged in April 2006 and married in a private ceremony in Kona, Hawaii, in 2007, with a small group of family and friends. They met in 2003 while he was filming Seabiscuit at Universal Studios, where her father, Ron Meyer, was a senior executive. They have two children, Ruby, born in November 2006, and Otis, born in May 2009.
Since the split, Meyer has been open about how well the two get along. She has praised Maguire as a co-parent and said the family still travels and spends holidays together.
