Worship centres, including churches and mosques, are to reopen in Ogun State on June 19 as the state government Friday released guidelines to further ease lockdown.
Governor Dapo Abiodun disclosed this while briefing newsmen in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta on Friday.
According to him, the state government has held a high level meeting with representatives of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) as well as the League of Imams and Alfas in Ogun State.
At the meeting, Abiodun informed that religious leaders were asked to present their submissions on how the restrictions on places of worship can be relaxed.
“We have received their submissions,” Abiodun said.
He spoke further that “a sub-committee of our COVID-19 Task Force, including religious leaders will review the submissions” for final adoption of the committee in the next few days, on or before Friday, June 12.
“This is to enable the gradual reopening of worship centres for religious activities to tentatively commence on Friday, 19 June, 2020.” he declared.
Abiodun said the relaxation is subject to review, warning that any worship centre that violates the guidelines, when released, will be sanctioned.
He reminded Ogun indigenes that the weekend lockdown as well as the ban on interstate travel are still in place; adding that “the pandemic is still with us.”
