Realness Institute invites Nigerian filmmakers to its 2022 film residency

The Realness Institute is looking for six young Nigerian filmmakers to work on their fiction film story concepts and scripts.

Screenwriters and mid-career industry professionals from Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, and other regions of Africa are welcome to apply for the 7th Realness Institute’s program.

Selected screenwriters will be invited to the Locarno Film Festival and the Academy’s ‘BaseCamp’ creative incubation program.

One of the six people chosen will also participate in the festival’s industry development program. Every week for the course of the program, they will engage with international and local guest speakers.

The most promising concepts will be invited to the prestigious La Fabrique des Cinémas du Monde in Cannes, receive a partial EAVE Producers’ Workshop Scholarship, and will be invited to the TorinoFilmLab Meetings Event and the Locarno Filmmakers Academy.

During AFRIFF’s Industry event, the Realness team will develop and offer development-related programs.

Nigeria is an exciting market we have long been interested in entering so it’s wonderful that our writers will get a chance to showcase their projects at AFRIFF.” – Mehret Mandefro, Director of Development and Partnerships for the Realness Institute.

The deadline for entries is March 7, and the program will run from August 3 to November 13.
