Singer, Seun Kuti breaks silence after regaining freedom from police custody

Afrobeat star, Seun Kuti has broken his silence on social media following his release from the grip of the men of the Lagos state police command.

The Music Star who was detained at the State Criminal, Investigations and Intelligence Department, SCID, Yaba, Lagos on the orders of a Yaba Chief Magistrate Court for assaulting a police officer was finally released on Tuesday night, May 23.

Taking to his Instagram story after his release, Seun Kuti thanked his wife, all his friends and loved ones for standing by him during his difficult times. The Singer wrote:

” want to say a profound thanks to everyone who showed me all this love. All my friends showed up!

Thanks most especially to my beautiful wife @chefyeidekuti.”

Court documents obtained by The PUNCH revealed that the Chief Magistrate, Adeola Olatunbosun, extended Kuti’s remand until Tuesday, May 23.

The document shows that a Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State last week Thursday granted an application by the police for an extension of remand of Seun Kuti until Tuesday, to enable the police to conclude its investigation, and for the advice of the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution

The police had told the court that the two days remand extension that was earlier granted was not enough for it to conclude its investigation.

Kuti was charged with assaulting a police officer during an altercation on Saturday, May 13, on the Third Mainland Bridge, in Lagos.
