Why Nigerian artists are more successful than other Africans – D-Black
  • D-Black highlighted business acumen as the reason Nigerian artists are more successful than other African artists.
  • He stated that Nigerian artists are business-driven, and has provided a structure for local and international success

Ghanaian musician Desmond Kwesi Blackmore, popularly known as D-Black has asserted that Nigerian artists have enjoyed a level of success unparalleled by their fellow African musicians.

He argued that the Nigerian music industry has not only produced talented artists but has also provided them with a platform for their success.

He concluded that the difference in success between Nigerian and Ghanaian performers can be attributed to business savvy.

D-black claimed Ghanaian musicians create music purely out of passion for it, while Nigerian musicians are motivated by business.

He emphasized on the need for artists to understand that music alone is not enough, and make use of what’s available to excel in the industry.

In a recent Afrobeats Podcast episode, D-Black stated:

“Why Nigerian records are flying higher than the Ghanaian ones is because Ghanaian artists don’t really care about the money. They don’t care about the business. It’s just the love of art which overpowered everything. There’s really no business behind it.

“BET nomination, all the accolades, I made no money. But as soon as I switched to commercial mood; Afrobeats, I bought my Ferrari and Range rover. I was everywhere.

“Artists and creatives need to understand that music alone is not enough. You need to get up and grind. You need to take advantage of social media to promote your craft.”

In another news, Nigerian singer, Pheelz laments on why artists are losing love for music

Pheelz lamented on the shift he has observed in the current generation of musicians. He highlighted the increasing focus on commercial success and fame, often at the expense of originality and artistic fulfillment.
