How I begged Olamide for two years before he agreed to sign me – Asake
  • Asake has for the first time revealed he begged Olamide for two years, prior when the latter signed him to YBNL.
  • The singer stated that it all happened so fast and it was quite an unbelievable experience for him.
  • Asake said he was invited to Olamide’s house one day and got signed almost immediately.

Nigerian singer, Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has revealed that he begged ace rapper and CEO of YBNL Nation, Olamide, for about two years before he accepted to sign him to the record label.

The ‘Mr Money’ crooner said the rapper invited him to his house one day and asked him whether he would like to join his record label, and he accepted with hesitation.

He said Olamide told him to get a lawyer and study the nature of the contract, but he was too excited and signed immediately.

Speaking in an interview with Hip TV, Asake said:

“Before he [Olamide] signed me, I’ve been begging Baddo [Olamide] since 2020 to sign me.

“One day, I got to his house, then he asked me… This part burst my head. This is how he signed me. He said, ‘How are you, Asake?’ I said I’m fine. And he asked me, ‘Would you like to join YBNL?’

“You don’t understand, for somebody you look up to, somebody you respect, somebody you’ve been longing to see, to ask you that question. I told him that I’m ready. He said, ‘Go and think about it. Go and look for a lawyer.”

I said: “Baba, sign me now now now. I don’t want any lawyer. Because I love the [YBNL] family so much even from afar.”

Asake signed to YBNL Nation in February 2022. That same month, he released his debut extended play, Ololade, which featured his breakthrough song ‘Omo Ope’ featuring Olamide and the single ‘Sungba.’

WITHIN NIGERIA recalls in June, Influencer, Idowu Adeyemi, popularly known as Yhemo Lee revealed how he assisted Afrobeats super star, Asake in meeting Olamide.

In an interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, Yhemo Lee said he begged YBNL boss, Olamide Baddo to give Asake a chance, even if it was just a verse on a music single.

The nightlife king disclosed that although he has been friends with Olamide for 13 years, he didn’t expect a record deal from the YBNL boss.

Yhemo Lee further described the moment as unbelievable claiming that when he made a single with DanDizzy and YKB, Baddo heard the track, liked it, and reached out.

He said that Olamide initially requested DanDizzy’s contact expressing the desire to work together and that it was during the course of their online interaction that he spoke out in favor of Asake.

He claimed that after a few conversations, Olamide asked him to send an audio clip which he promptly recorded before sending it back to Yhemo.

Yhemo Lee revealed that Olamide began discussing promotions and that two days later he disclosed his interest in signing Asake to YBNL.

The promoter in a video claimed that after picking the singer, they went directly to Olamide’s house, where the contract was waiting for them and Asake signed the forms on the same day.
