- Amidst the clamor for justice surrounding the allegations of rape against a movie costumier accused of assaulting a 10-year-old actress on set, The Delta State Police Command has dropped a bombshell update on the case.
- The police spokesperson revealed shockingly that the accused has been released, citing reasons for setting him free.
The Delta State Police Command has shed light on why Nollywood costumier Prince Onyenwere, accused of raping a 10-year-old girl, was let out on bail.
After being handed over to the police in January following an alleged assault for abusing the girl on a movie set, he was released, igniting a firestorm on social media.
In a statement released on Saturday, police spokesperson Bright Edafe revealed that the victim’s mother complicated the situation by stating that she and her family had forgiven the suspect and chose not to appear with her daughter, resulting in the suspect’s release.
Edafe also shared a statement from Austine Timi, the victim’s mother, in which she expressed her decision to withdraw her complaint because she had chosen to move on from the matter.
The police spokenspoken wrote via Instagram;
“Regarding the alleged rape of a 10-year-old girl by the actor “prince” I want members of the public to read how the mother of the victim compounded the entire case stating that she and her family has forgiven the suspect. She refused to show up with the victim. Attached are screenshots of text messages, and an affidavit.
“On the premise of that, charging the suspect was granted a temporary bail with the hope that the family will do the right thing,”

Prince Onyenwere was earlier handed over to the police in Asaba for allegedly raping the 10-year-old girl at a movie location.
In a video circulating on social media, Prince Onyenwere could be seen getting attacked by some persons believed to be his colleagues who kept beating him for allegedly abusing the minor.
