Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie speaks out about the unfair assumptions made about single mothers and divorcees.
In a recent post, Rita Edochie expressed her belief that there are many single mothers and divorcees who are actually more responsible and dedicated than some married women.
She warned people not to tell her that a woman’s capacity to be married to a guy is the best indicator of whether or not she is at fault for his misbehaviors.
She highlighted the strength and resilience of most single mothers and divorcees who often face societal judgment and stereotypes.
According to her, the majority of divorcees and single mothers are resourceful, competent, and capable breadwinners who can comfortably pay their bills and their children’s.
Rita Edochie noted that living in a man’s home does not define one’s virtue as a woman neither does it have anything to do with being responsible.
In her words:
“STOP TALKING DOWN ON SINGLE MOTHERS AND DIVORCEES, TAGGING THEM IRRESPONSIBLE BECAUSE YOU DO NOT KNOW THE CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING THE DIVORCE.
SEE EHNN, DON’T TELL ME THE BEST WAY TO DETERMINE IF A WOMAN IS RESPONSIBLE OR WAYWARD IS HER ABILITY TO BE IN MARRIAGE WITH A MAN, I CAN NEVER AGREE TO THAT.
THERE ARE MILLIONS OF SINGLE PARENTS AND DIVORCEES OUT THERE WHO ARE MORE RESPONSIBLE THAN MOST WOMEN THAT ARE IN THEIR HUSBANDS’ HOUSES.
THESE WOMEN TEND TO BE PRODUCTIVE AND RESOURCEFUL. THEY ARE CAPABLE BREADWINNERS WHO COMFORTABLY PAY THEIR BILLS AND THAT OF THEIR KIDS.”
