Police probe Mohbad’s dad over petition by Oba Elegushi

In the depths of a father's heart, the grief over a son's death can become an unbearable storm. The pain, so intense and consuming, can cloud his judgment, causing him to lash out and make accusations not grounded in reality, but in the desperate search for answers and justice for his lost child. This is precisely what befell Mohbad's father, Mr. Aloba, who, in a heart-wrenching interview, pointed a finger at Oba Elegushi, only to find himself grappling with the consequences of his words. As the storm subsides, a glimmer of hope emerges: perhaps, in the end, truth and healing will dawn, and Mr Aloba's anguish will find solace in the embrace of justice.

Police probe Mohbad’s dad over petition by Oba Elegushi
  • A new twist has emerged in the saga following Mohbad’s death, shedding light on the recent police invitation received by his father, Mr. Aloba.
  • Just days after Mr. Aloba’s emotional outcry about being summoned by the authorities, it has come to light that the Oba Elegushi has lodged a formal petition with the police.
  • The petition addresses Mr. Aloba’s allegedly groundless accusations against the monarch, igniting a fresh wave of controversy in this unfolding drama.

On Monday, officers from the Nigeria Police Force Criminal Investigation Department in Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos State, interrogated Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad.

This questioning was in response to a petition filed by His Royal Majesty, Oba Alayeluwa Saheed Ademola Elegushi, Kusenla III.

According to a statement by Monisola Odumosu, head of the Aloba legal team, the petition accuses Mr. Aloba of cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and criminal defamation.

Odumosu stated that the allegation came on the heels of an interview granted by Aloba recently.

The statement read in part, “Mr Aloba was invited by the police and led to the police station by the representatives of his legal team, Teri Wellington and Monisola Odumosu. The petition was written by Oba Saheed Elegushi who alleged that during one of Mr. Aloba’s interviews with a London-based blogger, he was criminally defamed.

“During the interview, Mr. Aloba granted the London-based blogger, it was alleged that he said, ‘… his son was bullied and killed on the instruction of Oba Elegushi and that it was one Sam Larry that was sent to do the job…”

The statement reveals that Joseph Aloba emphasized he never intended to defame Oba Elegushi or engage in cyberbullying and cyberstalking, asserting that his main objective was to seek justice for his late son.

Monisola Odumosu further noted that Aloba clarified he lacked concrete evidence to support his claims against the monarch, aside from the petition his late son had written and various phone conversations he had with.

Odumosu noted that the monarch, who attended the meeting, demanded a retraction of the allegations, also clarified that Joseph Aloba was neither arrested nor detained during the questioning.

“In fairness to Oba Elegushi, he only demanded the retraction of the defaming statements made by Mr Aloba on social media.

“Mr. Aloba was never arrested or detained. He was granted bail without stress. It is important to note that Mr. Aloba is still grieving the death of his son. He just lost a single star in the family firmament.

“Any grieving parent may on the spur of the moment make statements that may tend to be unreasonable. We only need to understand the geographical circumstances giving rise to his utterances.”, He continued.

This development follows a viral video of Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, tearfully reacting to his invitation to the Alagbon police station in Ikoyi, Lagos.

In the video, Aloba revealed he had received a petition from the police but was unaware of the specific reasons behind the summons
