May Edochie’s attorney recently came out swinging in response to Yul Edochie’s bold assertion about walking out of a marriage.
In a podcast interview, the filmmaker passionately argued that there’s no shame in ending a faltering marriage, emphasizing that individuals have the freedom to walk away from unsuccessful unions and even opt to tie the knot multiple times, asserting that one can marry as many as 50 times if they so desire.
The controversial actor boldly asserted that prioritizing personal happiness over public opinion is paramount in matters of marriage. He emphasized that choosing to remain unmarried is equally valid if it brings joy and fulfillment to an individual’s life.
Emeka Ugwuonye, the attorney representing May, disclosed that Yul didn’t follow his public statement during his marital crisis. Instead, he wanted to force May into accepting a second wife in their marriage as a “proud polygamist”.
“But he is doubly wrong on this. First, this was not what he did in respect of his marriage to Queen May. He didn’t walk away with an intent to end his marriage with May. Instead, he wanted to add a second wife and remain married to May as “a proud polygamist”. So, one wonders when Yul came upon the theory he is now bandying about.”
The legal counsel went on to criticize Yul for his stance, condemning his perspective and highlighting that marriage is not akin to a casual gathering at a beer parlour, where individuals can come and go as they please without adhering to proper protocols and procedures.
They wrote;
“Marriage is an institution created by law. As an institution, it takes legal ceremonies to create a marriage, which then into a family. Also, marriage results in many cases, including his children could be born to the marriage and marital properties jointly acquired by husband and wife during the marriage.”
