Chidimma Adetshina, the current Miss Universe Nigeria, opens up her decision to delete her Twitter account.
In a recent interview on Arise 360, Chidimma Adetshina explained that the constant negative feedback on Twitter had taken a toll on her mental health, prompting her to remove the app for relief.
She stated that as someone who actively reads comments, she found the experience overwhelming and toxic.
“I had to delete it because I felt like it was too much for me. I’m a comment reader so I read each and every comment; that’s the thing. So for me, I could spend 80% of my day reading comments. I’d read the comments and all and it became toxic for me. I use Instagram but I did limit my comment section one time,” Adetshina explained.
While appreciative of her fans’ support, Adetshina also acknowledged the potential risks of publicly backing her, as some of her supporters also faced online harassment.
“Sometimes there are people in the comment section saying, ‘I really like you but I don’t want to put my feelings out there,’ and it’s valid because when people support me, they get dragged. I don’t want people to go through something like that for supporting me,” she said.
The move came after facing intense backlash regarding her nationality and win, as well as controversy surrounding her withdrawal from the Miss South Africa pageant.
Chidimma Adetshina also addressed identity theft claims by South African government .
The 23-year-old beauty queen denied any involvement in the identity theft allegations..
She said:
“I did not steal anyone’s identity. I’m just waiting for the conclusion of the case and the whole matter. Then moving forward I will know exactly what to say because I feel right now if I say something and another thing comes out tomorrow. I’m just avoiding all those two things contradicting each other.
“I really avoided the questions because it is a legal matter and I don’t have all the facts around the matter, but what I can say is that I was not running away from any of that. I was just running because I knew I had a dream that I wanted to fulfil.
” I’m not fully aware of the matter. But what I can speak on is that I know I did not steal anyone’s identity.”
