Nollywood actress Eniola Badmus has expressed optimism about Nigeria’s economic trajectory under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership.

According to Badmus, recent data indicates a decline in imports and a surge in exports, suggesting a broadening of the country’s economy.

The actress highlighted the significant progress made in trade, noting a notable shift towards production-driven growth, as opposed to consumption.

On her Instagram story, Eniola Badmus shared statistics illustrating this trend, including a trade surplus of over N14 trillion in the first eight months of 2024, which she described as an unprecedented achievement in Nigeria’s history.

She wrote:

“Our imports are reducing, and our exports are increasing. That is a sign that our economy is expanding.

“For the year-to-date 2024, our imports were N24.44 trillion, while our exports stood at N38.59 trillion. This gives us an unprecedented trade surplus of over N14 trillion in just eight months.

“It has never happened in Nigeria. Never. This is a refreshing shift from consumption to production.”

In another story, Comedian Layi Wasabi bemoans the state of Nigeria’s economy.

During a recent appearance on The 90’s Babies Show in London, the comedian shared insights into his career, including his transition from stand-up comedy to skit making, and his experiences in boarding school.

Layi speaking on the economic challenges facing Nigeria, he described the situation as “crazy.”

He noted, “The economic situation in Nigeria is crazy, the exchange rate is crazy. The government is really old, I won’t say the president but the government is old.”

Layi highlighted the resilience of Nigerians in the face of economic hardships, emphasizing the role of comedy in bringing joy to people during difficult times.

He mentioned the impact of news on people’s mental health and the importance of providing moments of levity through his comedic content.

The comedian also emphasized the struggles faced by many Nigerians, pointing out the strain caused by the low minimum wage in the country.
