“4 out of 5 powerful Nigerian filmmakers are women” – Shaffy Bello hits back at claims of male dependency
  • With characteristic wit and sophistication, Shaffy Bello took aim at the tired trope of male dependency, expertly dismantling its flawed assumptions and shallow narratives.
  • In a tour-de-force interview, she celebrated the unsung heroines of Nigerian filmmaking, illuminating their groundbreaking achievements and cementing their status as industry leaders.

Veteran Nigerian actress Shaffy Bello has ignited a blazing debate with her candid take on women’s empowerment in the Nigerian film industry.

During a recent interview on Cool FM Lagos, Bello tackled the lingering perception that successful female entertainers owe their success to male benefactors.

With unwavering conviction, Bello used her own career as a testament to women’s independence. Her success story, she emphasized, has never been attributed to any man.

Extending this assertion to her female colleagues, Bello stressed that many women in Nollywood are breaking boundaries and achieving greatness without relying on male patronage.

To drive her point home, Bello revealed a stunning statistic: four out of the five most powerful and successful filmmakers in Nigeria are women.

These women, according to her, have built their empires through hard work, resilience, and creative genius, with no debt to any man.

This comes months after Shaffy Bello revealed her stance on marriage, saying she’s not interested because there are already plenty of women for men to choose from.

In the latest episode of Mercy’s Menu, the actress opened up about her desire for meaningful companionship without the pressure of a wedding ring.

Shaffy, who proudly calls herself a “one man kind of woman,” made it clear that while she craves deep connection, the institution of marriage just isn’t her thing.

She’s ready for a committed relationship but without the traditional expectations that come with walking down the aisle.
